After the SHOCK

02

They say Cancer is like a roller coaster, lots of ups and downs. That is very much what life felt like as soon as the shock waves started. With bladder cancer it goes  6 weeks in treatment and 6 weeks off, then to re scope and start over again. We lived 6 hours from the treatment facility and would travel there and back each week for the Tuberculosis treatments they did on his bladder cancer. Traveling that way was hard on us, especially Lloyd, but it was the only way to keep the kid’s world as normal as possible and keep my clients as regular as possible. After 1.5 years of this cycle over and over I told Lloyd that we needed to look into moving closer to OKC. His treatments would never end, there is no cure for bladder cancer and his was not going to be easy. He applied to a different position with ODOT in Buffalo OK. He got the job and moved in January of 2016. I stayed behind with the kids so they could finish the school year and I could pack up the house to move…you know more multitasking!

He enjoyed his new position, and it was 3 hours closer for him to drive to the city. He came home on the weekends and helped us pack up. Life had hit a new normal, I was looking for a salon to work at part time in Buffalo. I was nervous about the transition, but it had to be done.

Buffalo is a little smaller than Boise City and we had a hard time finding a place to live/buy, but we finally found a place and got settled. The kids got enrolled in school and I spent my time scheduling treatments trying to meet people and walking my stress away on their walking trail right across from the house we rented. The week school started Lloyd was feeling off after his last treatment session. He said he felt like something was very wrong, I called and got an emergency appointment with Dr Cookson. He sent Lloyd for scans and all of a sudden we were headed to the hospital to stay the night for more scans and biopsies. Our journey was about to make a HUGE shift!

Until next time,

Val C
